He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph "Pop" Jr. Smith and Georgie Smith (Shamblin); his stepmother Zella Smith; his wife Carol Smith (Swiney); his sister Joyce Smith; his stepbrother Danny Meadows; and his brother-in-law Joe Sparr.
He is survived by: his children, Butch Smith (Linda) and Joyce Skaggs (Kenny) of Laurelville; his grandchildren, Jeremy Skaggs (Chantel), Cody Smith (Jess) and Kassie Ross (Trevor); his great grandchildren, Bristol, Scarlett Skaggs, Nicholas, Cody Davis, Carter Smith, Zane, Fallon Ross and Reilly Skaggs; his siblings, Bill Smith (Joy) and Darla Smith; his stepsister Janet Meadows of West Virginia; and his siblings-in-law, Tom Swiney (Sharon) of North Carolina, Sue Hays of Michigan and Patty Sparr of Georgia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
