He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Carlston and Gladys Carlston (Root); his grandsons, Elijah Carlston and Spencer Osterhout; and his siblings, Edwin Carlston (Vera), Richard Carlston (Dee), Mickey Ostman (Chuck) and Bob Root.
He is survived by: his wife Patsy Marie Mays; his children, John Jr. Carlston (Wendy), Peggy Carlston, Tammy Osterhout (Jason) and Timothy Carlston (Lisa); and his grandchildren, Jeffrey Helbert, Alyssa Carlston, Zachary Osterhout (Lydia), Abbigail Osterhout, Ian Osterhout, Emma Osterhout, Reid Osterhout, Kyle Cocke (Sharon), Maryn Carlston and Alek Carlston. He is also survived by four great grandchildren.
