He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ralph Crates and Agnes Marie Buess Crates; his brother James Crates; his wife Florence Marie Miller Crates; his children, Judith Chaffins (Donald), David Crates (Carol) and Michael Crates (Kim); his great grandchildren, Jordan, Korbin, Jessica, Landon Crates, Ellie, Cody, Taylor Crates, Kinadie Lacock, Keerstin Collins, Evan, Emma, Ella Motzer, Addy, Lucy Chaffins, Nathan Hunter, Audrey, Sawyer Cummans, Brody, Ada Correll, Adelynn and Aria Crates; his sister Suzie Sutherland (David); and his sisters-in-law, Catherine Case and Sally Roof. He was also cherished by eight grandchildren.
