He is survived by: his former wives, Annie Bell Danzy and Lillie Ruth Smith; his wife Lillian Marie Spruill; his children, Carolyn Ann Bates, Steven Bates, Tammi Lenore Moore (Michael) and Doreen Annette Robinson (Anthony); his stepsons, Bobby Ford and James Ford; his grandchildren, Terea Mosley, Rodney Mills, Chris Bates, Tangela Henry, Detravan Henry, Jon Taylor, Samara Payton, Scott Payton (Lyyou), Matthew Morton, Grace Williams and Ronald Williams, Jr.; his sibling's children, Anthony Bates and Esther Horrison; and his great-niece Sharonica Horrison.
