He was predeceased by : his parents, Paul David and Pauline Alma Miller Alkire. He is survived by : his wife Carol L. Alkire; his children, Clair Wayne Alkire Jr. (Deanna) of Cleveland, OH and Jennifer Miller (Don) of Belpre; his grandchildren, Doug Guns, Justin Miller, Cory Miller (Sorcha) and Staci Miller (Kelli); his great grandchild Brantley Miller; his sister Jane Deem (Larry) of Belpre; his nephew Steven Deem (Leanne); and his great-nephews, Sammy, Kaleb, Aaron Deem and Brandon Allen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Legion Post 15 in Parkersburg.

“Carol, We were so sorry to hear about Wayne. You and the children are in our prayers. Wayne was such a nice guy. I'll always remember, years ago, when my car slid around in that sharp curve by your house & he came along & helped me get turned around. I was so thankful because the kids were just babies then & it scared the life out of me. Please let us know if you ever need help with anything; we're here.”
