He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry E. Schauss and Ruth Schauss (Sarstedt); and his brother Roger Schauss. He is survived by: his wife Rebecca "Becky" Schauss (Mattinson); his children, Wendy Garvin (William "Bill") and Brian Schauss (Melissa); his sister Gretchen Schauss; his grandchildren, Ben Garvin, Zach Garvin, Katherine Schauss and William Schauss; and his sister-in-law Jane Schauss.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in John's honor.
