Matthew Alexander Leibas Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother Mathew Alexander Leibas, 65 of Lorain, who left us on Friday, July 10, 2026, to be with the Lord following a brief battle with cancer.
Matt was born on April 22, 1961, in Lorain, where he spent the majority of his life. He was a 1979 graduate of Lorain High School where he excelled in football and baseball. He had earned many accolades in these sports including All Ohio and All Buckeye awards. Matt attended the University of Findlay on a four-year football scholarship. He had many different jobs but mostly in the construction trade.
Matt was an avid reader and enjoyed his numerous books. He played slow pitch softball for many years. Matt also enjoyed playing golf, trivia, and video games with his nephews. He loved music and taught himself to play both electric and acoustic guitar.
He is survived by his siblings Mark (Maureen) Leibas of Gahanna, Dean Leibas of Lorain, and Tina (Randy) Marks of New London; nieces Sabrina, Rachel, and Kasey and nephews Montana, Carson, David, and Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hortencia and Florentino Leibas.
His family will receive friends at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 8:30 until Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM. Rev. Father Alexander C. Spenik, Pastor will officiate.
