With sadness, we share the passing of James W. Ernsberger Sr. (Mansfield, Ohio). James, born on January 23, 1935, passed away on September 15, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, James W. and Josephine (Bajai); his wife Mary Ellen O'Hearn; and his brothers, Donald Ernsberger and Gary Ernsberger.
He is survived by: his stepfather Jack Fletcher; his children, Kimberly Swank (Stephen), James Ernsberger, Jr. (Sue) and Michael Ernsberger (Jenny Thompson); his grandchildren, Tiffany Swank, Alecia Extine (Tyler), Charles Swank (Erika), Ian Ernsberger (Karly) and Porsche Ernsberger; his great grandchildren, Alexandria Collier, Arianna Collier, Maleia Wyatt, Callie Shoffstall, Ayla Swank, Bexley Swank and Ella Grace Ernsberger; and his sister-in-law Pat Rottman. He is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Marion Avenue Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Mary of the Snows Parish (1630 Ashland Rd, Mansfield, OH 44905).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the Richland County Fish and Game, 1360 Poth Road, Mansfield, Ohio, to St. Mary of the Snows Parish/School, or to Southern Care Hospice Services.
