He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Matthews and Florence Viola Leasure Matthews; his wife Sally Ann Farley Matthews; his son Timothy Vannoy; his daughter-in-law Connie Vannoy; and his great grandchild Charley Nell Spencer.
He is survived by: his children, Lisa Lavery (Jim), Jody Curry (Henry), Joe Matthews II (Brenda), Thomas Vannoy, Tony Vannoy (Nancy) and Tammy Vannoy Wilson (Don); his sister Kay Warden; and his friend Jackie Taylor. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
