He was predeceased by : his parents, Harold Nelson and Mary Nelson; his brother Rodney Dee Nelson; his grandson Jody Tarter; and his son-in-law Chuck Tarter.

He is survived by : his daughter Becky Tarter; his grandsons, Zachary Tarter and Jeremy Tarter (Nancy); his great grandchild Bella Tarter of Midland, TX; his brother Rocky Joe Nelson of Vincent; and his cousin John Nelson III (Lori) of Vincent.
