He was predeceased by: his parents, Roscoe Gruber, Jr. and Joanne Waters; his wife Ida Louise Gruber (Unroe); and his siblings, Steve Gruber and Jackie K. Bowers (Les).

He is survived by: his close friends, Tom Bell and Robert Turner; his siblings, James Gruber (Pat), Pete Gruber, Bonnie Dendinger, Donna Cook, Gloria McMahan and Sue Roseberry (Dwight); his daughters, Holly Schaber (Brian), Michelle Rank (Matt) and Kimberly Gruber; and his grandchildren, K. J., Kurerra Vernon, Josh, Schyler Trent (Nichole), Brienna Johnston (Ian), Allyson Blackwell (Gabe) and Arica Cermak (Tyler). He is also survived by his 5 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
