He was predeceased by: his spouse Dr. Sachiko Kohara Okamoto; his son-in-law Todd Peck; his parents, Konosuke Okamoto and Eque Okamoto; and his siblings, Fumiko (Buchanan), Takashi, Shigeo, Sumiko (Sugino) and Mariko (Tomiyama).

He is survived by: his children, Joel Okamoto (Ruth), Martha Okamoto and Rebecca Okamoto; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Peter, Thomas Okamoto, Andrew and Benjamin Peck.
