He was predeceased by: his parents, Cortland Hughes and Myrtle Hughes (Hancock); and his brothers, Frederick, John "Donald" and Edwin Hughes.

He is survived by: his wife Carole L. Hughes (Hunker); and his siblings, Richard Hughes, Nancy McDonald and Mary Jane Hughes. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Maryland Avenue Baptist Church (1255 Maryland Ave SW, Canton, OH 44710).
