He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard Mockensturm and Catherine Mockensturm (Ronau); and his children, Melissa Gardner and Michael Mockensturm. He is survived by: his wife Geraldine; his children, Mark Mockensturm (Rob Salem), Michele Topor (Joe), Margretta Risi (John) and Marilyn Gentz (Will); his son-in-law Dave Gardner; and his stepchildren, Karen Lemle (Roger), Roxanne Grinonneau (Lee), Libbey McIwain and Brad Palicki (Stacey). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren; step grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
He also helped many through the Toledo Community Foundation, and through direct aid to people he would meet throughout his life.
