He was predeceased by: his parents, Fredric Griss and Florence Griss (Lynch); his wife Danelle "Dannie" (Pemberton); his sister Kathleen Jefferies; his brothers-in-law, Edwin Jefferies and Randy Donald; and his nephew John Eckhart.
He is survived by: his children, Erin Chonko (Greg), John Griss, Ryan Griss (Lisa) and Katie Griss; his grandchildren, Megan Chonko (Brendon), Tommy Chonko (Gracie), Jake Chonko (Jessica), Josh Chonko (Liz), Devan Hoerner, Aria and Adeline Griss; his brother Robert Griss (Judy); his sisters-in-law, Judy Donald and Annmaire McClellan (Patrick); and his nieces and nephews, Jim Eckhart (Linda), Kathy Eckhart, Colleen Lopez (Tom), Mike Eckhart, Alex Griss, Rocky Donald, Reggie Donald (Stephanie), Amber Rader (Zach) and Codi Sellers.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 15th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (104 W Broadway St, Maumee, OH 43537). A burial will be held on Friday, May 15th 2026 from 11:45 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Joseph Cemetery (910 W Wayne St, Maumee, OH 43537).
Memorial contributions may be made in Gene's name to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maumee, Ohio.
