He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Applegate and Julia Applegate; his wife Louella Applegate (Whitaker); and his siblings, Anna Mae Bruch, Richard, William and Charles Applegate.
He is survived by: his children, Kimberly Anne Applegate Hoyme (Jim), Karen Elaine Applegate McGinnis (Brent) and James Alonzo Applegate, Jr. (Teresita "Tejie"); his brothers, Henry, Gary, Howard and Ralph Applegate; and his grandchildren, Travis, Brandon, Mark, Courtney, Crystal, Amber and Hannah. He is also survived by nineteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home (1310 3rd St, West Portsmouth, OH 45663). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
