He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Jane; and his siblings, Emil Vendel, Ella Glagola (Michael) and Steven Vendel. He is survived by: his children, Ed (Candi) and Lisa; his grandchildren, Nathan Vendel (Maddie Polk), Elliot Vendel (Maddie Hartrich), Kristin Chesley (Luke), Jim Ladd Jr. (Stephanie), Nicholas Ladd (Havely Carsky), Charlie Ladd and Andrew Ladd; and his great grandchildren, Lucy, Naomi Ladd and Chesley.
