He was predeceased by: his parents, Burton Nicholson and Ruth Nicholson (Wilks); his sister Pamela Bottesch; and his brothers-in-law, Ronald Jones and David Bottesch.

He is survived by: his wife Claire Lois Nicholson (Beaumier); his children, Jennifer Vilimonovic (Stevan), Laura Capuozzo (Michael), Stephen Nicholson, Cheryl Midian (Marty) and Amy Simpson (Kevin); his siblings, Diane Jones and Paul Nicholson (Nancy); his grandchildren, Samantha Tietjen, Anna, Angelina Vilimonovic, Christopher, Patrick Capuozzo, Toussaint Oatman-Nicholson, Lincoln and Will Midian; and his siblings, Nathaneal, Josephine and Sheena Simpson.
