He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Edgar and Stella Pennington (Day); his son Robert Clay "Beagle" Pennington; and his grandson Hunter Eugene Pennington. He is survived by: his wife Sondra Pennington; his children, Michael Pennington (Diana), Debbie Griffieth (Paulie), Paris Pennington (Tyler) and Katie Pennington (Ceejay); his grandchildren, Michael Jacob, Louis, Kelly, Catriawna, Mason and Parker; his great grandchildren, Bryce, Sage, Hunter and Bindi; his great great grandchildren, Cameron and Adalynn; and his sister Linda Walker.
