He is survived by: his wife Mary Merkle; his children, Carrie Merkle-Cox (Dan Correll), Nicholas Merkle (Nick) and Matthew Merkle (Matt); his daughter-in-law Caroline Merkle; his grandsons, Keith Merkle (Dakota Theders) and Jacob Merkle; his great grandchildren, Molly and David; and his sister Phyllis Kleinholz (Mark).
