He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Whalen and Angela Whalen (Fakehany); and his brothers, Edward and Robert Whalen. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Whalen (Rice); his daughters, Dana Keim (Jeff), Angela Bernicke (Michael) and Amy Buehrer (Mark); his brother Gerald Whalen (Connie); his grandchildren, Amanda Buehrer, Seth Keim (Kaitlynd), Noah Keim, Logan Buehrer (Malorie), Joe Bernicke (Zoe), John Whalen Bernicke and Anna Bernicke; and his great grandchildren, Cameron, Kaylee, Lucas, Bella, Emmett and Blaire. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 1st 2026 at 10:00 AM and from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Waterville Community Church (8217 Dutch Rd, Waterville, OH 43566).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given in his memory to SouthernCare Hospice or Living Grace Evangelical Church.
