She was predeceased by: her parents, William M. Johnston, Sr. and Sarah F. Johnston (Sams); her daughter Brenda McWhorter; her siblings, William Alpha Johnston, Sr., Shirley Higgins, Patricia Daugherty, Elizabeth Royer and Linda Johnston; and her grandson K. C. Jones.
She is survived by: her husband Samuel N. McWhorter, Sr.; her children, Rita Work (Daniel), Laura McGreevy (Dennis), Samantha Bourst (Randy), Samuel McWhorter, Jr. (Karisa) and Stacey Winegarnder (Shon); and her siblings, Robert Johnston and Ruth Tyo. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous foster grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
