He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence E. Bartlett, Sr. and Edna Bartlett (Kopmann) of Virginia; and his sister Ginny Roth (George). He is survived by: his wife Carole Dodd (Spicer); his children, Melissa Salyer, La Tina Bartlett, Kelley Robinson (Donald) and Samuel Dodd VI; and his grandchildren, Mckenzie Russell, F. Stephen Richardson (Karey), Jonathan Richardson (Mary) and Michelle Robinson (William). He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
