He was predeceased by: his parents, John B. Slaughter and Beulah Slaughter (Vellenoweth); his wife Emma Joyce Slaughter (Minton); his son Mark Richard Slaughter; and his siblings, John Slaughter Jr., Dale Slaughter, Phyllis Madan and Sarah Akers.

He is survived by: his children, Leslie, Mary Elizabeth Wright and Lori Edwards; Archie Haynes. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
