He was predeceased by: his parents, John Thornton and Mary Thornton (Hofacker); and his siblings, Marcella, John, Mary Lou Utz (George) and Carol Buddendeck (Gerard).
He is survived by: his wife Linda Thornton (Nickles); his children, Steven Thornton and Elizabeth Thornton; his extended family, Jason Lee Nickles and Jennifer Wheeler (Tom); his sister-in-law Barbara Thornton; Karoline, Thomas and Aerin. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews; and many special cousins and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, December 4th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home (141 Green Wave Dr, Newark, OH 43055). A vigil service was held on Thursday, December 4th 2025 at 6:30 PM at the same location. A Mass was held on Friday, December 5th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (40 Granville St, Newark, OH 43055).
