He was predeceased by: his father Henry Virlen; his brothers-in-law, Rex Fleming, Donald Welch and Robert L. Reynard; and his nephew Rex Fleming Jr..

He is survived by: his daughter Kimberly Swinehart (Andrew); his sisters, Relva Jean Fleming, Terry Lynn Welch and Linda Kay Reynard; and his grandsons, Kirk Swinehart (Rachael) and Clay Swinehart. He is also survived by six nephews.
