He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Best and Angeline Gildone Best; his wife Donna Askew Best; his siblings, Wilbert, Larry, James, Charles, Harold Best, Marcella Kennedy, Ruth D'Ambra and Mary Best; his daughter-in-law Regina Best; and his brothers, Paul and Richard Best.

He is survived by: his children, Robert J. Best, Gene Best (Debby) and Denise Eagley (David); his grandchildren, Robert Tredway, Mark, Stephanie and Sean Best; his stepgrandchildren, Chris, Nicholas, Eugene and Desiree Cottom; and his sister Carol Sharp. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren.
