He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Schaer and Alice Schaer (Schilling); his great grandchild Aden Abraham; and his siblings, Anna Mae Hershey, Dorothy Clark, Netty Fogle, Mary Casto, Bob Schaer and Ernie Schaer.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Schaer (Wadian); his children, James Schaer, Jr. (Jyl) and Deborah Zimmerly (Bob); his grandchildren, Matt Zimmerly (Lauren), Kyle Zimmerly (Heather), Nick Abraham (Anna), Ashley Richardson (Andrew) and Jessica Schaer; his great grandchildren, Mattix, Zoey, Nora, Enzo and James; and his sisters, Lucille Weisgarber and Helen Singer. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home (624 Cherry St E, Canal Fulton, OH 44614). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
