He was predeceased by: his parents, Pedro Rivera and Luz Rivera; and his siblings, Guadalupe Rivera, Avelina Leal, Mary Martinez, Dominga Calloway, Antonio Rivera, Luis Rivera, Pedro Rivera and Salvador Rivera.

He is survived by: his wife Dolores Alvarez; his children, Michaela (Kerry), Diana Rivera, Luz Marie "Lucha" Swindig (Allen Jr.), Veronica Rivera, James Rivera (Megan) and Patrick Rivera (PJ) of Westlake; and his brothers, Robert Rivera of North Royalton and Magdaleno Rivera of Cleveland. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
