She was predeceased by: her parents, James Smith and Viola Smith (McKowan); her husband Hubert Carpenter; her son Ralph Carpenter; her daughter-in-law Lynda; her grandson Brett Carpenter; and her siblings, Betty, Barbara, Edith, Bob, Jimmy, Mike and Frank.
She is survived by: her daughter Margaret Levine (Gary); her grandchildren, Lori Brittain (Jack), Kim Balcer (Dan Rapp), Melanie Levine (Randy Rhodes) and Stephanie Carpenter (Christopher O'Farrell); and her great grandchild Michael Carpenter (Makenna). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and the cherished friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Mary's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
