He was predeceased by: his parents, Lele Dobbins and Jennie Cunningham Dobbins; his wife Joan; his son Larry Dobbins; and his siblings, Delvin, Elvin, Norma Rose and Evelene Rexroad.
He is survived by: his children, Michael (Michelle), Karen (Eric), Annette (Jeff) and Mel Jr. (Kim); and his sisters, Evelyn Gum, Joy Burns and Waveline Jenkins. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.
