Nicholas Scott Carbetta Obituary

Nicholas "Nick" Scott Carbetta, age 61, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Born March 31, 1960, to Frederick "Fred" and Catherine "Kitty" Carbetta, Nick was a devoted son; brother to Marc (Kim) Carbetta, Tim Carbetta, Tracey (Mike) Porter; husband to Laurie (Smith), father to Carina; and a treasured family member to all.
Wise beyond his years, upon graduating from Ontario early, at 17, Nick's adventurous spirit took him into a lifelong career in telecommunications and the opportunity to travel to the Southwest to hone his trade. A few years later, Nick found himself home where he found his soulmate, Laurie Smith. On October 14, 1989, they were wed into a marriage so strongly bonded Nick refused to remove his wedding ring, even when working around electric, for 32 years.

A true family man, Nick's love of family spread to Laurie's and he became an integral part of each of their lives joining the two families into one. Leading to the birth of their daughter, Carina, Nick and Laurie built a beautiful life embracing their nieces and nephews as their own bringing enthusiastic fun, wisdom, strength, and guidance to each of them. This was a love that would only grow as Carina entered this world and Nick's "practice" with his nieces and nephews prepared him for an incredible fatherhood. Dedicated to her success, Nick continued to work hard to provide the greatest opportunities for his daughter to succeed in education, athletics, and in life while balancing his time to be involved and there for her throughout her growth.

The first to help anyone or any animal in need, Nick's character was shown through his dedication to his parents and mother and father-in law. A busy, hard-working man dedicated to his entire family, not a week passed that Nick did not check on his father and mother, tending to their needs. However, the greatest testament to his character was his reaction to his mother-in-law's diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer's. Rather than shying away, he faced the situation head-on moving his family from their home into hers to offer her the best quality of life as the terrible disease progressed. During this time Nick's nurturing, gentle nature shined as he cared for Mari Lynn with patience and without a single complaint until care could no longer be given.

Wise, compassionate, and nonjudgmental, all who knew Nick knew they could always find a neutral ear to listen and, when ready and only if asked, advice that would help navigate through any situation. A guiding light, even in his passing, the family has found comfort in the ability to reflect and ask, "What would Nick say?"

Second only to his passion for life, family, and people, was Nick's love of nature and animals. A true outdoorsman and conservationist, Nick's favorite place was in the woods, field, or stream. Always able to spot even the most hidden of animals, it was as if the animals could sense his respect for them and lack of any threat. When he wasn't enjoying the great outdoors, Nick could be found in the yard feeding the birds, caring for numerous rescue pets, or reading/watching outdoor programs (so long as the Browns weren't playing).

While Nick will be sadly missed by all, the impact from the wisdom he shared will live on in the lives of all blessed enough to know him.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A funeral service will follow at 6:30 p.m.
