He was predeceased by : his parents, Jacob Scharer and Marie Scharer (Becker); his wife Carolyn Hanely; his siblings, Jacob Ronald Scharer (Marguerite) and Mary Jane Wernert Sr. (Clem); and his nephews, Michael Wernert and Jake Wernert.

He is survived by : his sons, Jimmy Scharer (Jeannie) and David Scharer (Karen); his grandchildren, Andrea Chapman (Kyle), Bri Waddell (Michael), Erick Scharer (Shana), Meghan, Jennifer, Angie Blair (Dan) and Tommy Nehring (Becca); his great grandchildren, Grant, Garrett, Raelyn, Faye, Brendon, Braylon, Cameron, Julian, Kayley and Fiona; and his nieces and nephews, Ron Scharer (Laura), John Scharer (Pat), Clem Wernert, Marlene Evans (Cecil) and Lana Lee Scott (Dick). He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.
