Sandra Helaine Emmert Obituary

Sandra (Sandi) Emmert, née Darin peacefully passed on Monday, February 9, 2026, only two weeks from her 87th birthday.

Born and raised in Barberton, OH, she met her husband of 58 years, Walt, through mutual friends. They dated and were married in Columbus, OH and moved during graduate school to Colorado. Eventually retiring to Gold Canyon, AZ; then Spring Hill, FL; the Emmert's returned to both their family roots in Ohio.

Sandi was dearly loved and will be missed. Preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Sandi is survived by children Lisaann in Australia, Steven in Illinois, three grandsons and one granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, cousins, brother Jim in Georgia, and her numerous friendships created in life.

She loved to cook and bake from family recipes. She collected many cookbooks and was always eager to try new recipes along with family specialties. She even studied nutrition, putting her skills to use as a dietician for local schools. Adapting a family recipe known as "cowboy coffee cake," it became a favorite at two school districts. Her family and friends also loved her lemon poppyseed cakes, and her own version of Grandma's nut-roll was a holiday favorite.

She also was an avid crafter. From sewing to ceramics, stained glass or beading, Sandi never found a craft she would not try and eventually master. She learned to crochet and made hats for cancer patients and lap afghan blankets for women's shelters. She put sewing skills to work making quilts and baby blankets first for her family and then for those in need. To the end, she still had many projects she was working on for charity craft fairs.

She enjoyed travelling, from the beaches of the East Coast to the Ozarks and Smokey Mountains, and the desert Southwest. She loved the multiple cruises they took on the Pacific and Caribbean Oceans, but most loved relaxing and enjoying the Rocky Mountains, spending their summers in Vail, Colorado.

A celebration of Sandi's life will be held privately. She will be deeply missed, but the impact she made on others will endure. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested you make a donation to a food bank or to do something for those in need - she would have liked that.
