He was predeceased by : his parents, Wilma Mate and Frank Mate; his wife Betty Montonini; and his sisters, Nancy Stockdale and Marilyn Mate.

He is survived by : his daughter Angela Marie Smith; his grandchildren, Parker R. and Ryder W. Smith; and his sister Diane Wilma Mate.
