He is survived by: his children, Timothy Birthisel (Sumac) and Susan Birthisel; his grandchildren, Megan Stewart (Jason), Mollie Birthisel, Faren Jimenez (Monique), John Schmalzried (Ashley) and Jessica Pfleghaar (Jake); and his great grandchildren, Raquelle Schmalzried and Josie Pfleghaar.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church, Perrysburg, Ohio.
