He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles Gambert and Leona Gambert (Lattis); and his son Stephen Charles. He is survived by : his wife Sherron Ann; his children, Jennifer Lynn Kerns (Jeff), Monica Angela, Mary Bernadette and Kyle James (Morgan); and his stepson Benjamin Hoehler (Amy). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made to the American Red Cross in James's honor.
