He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernhard Friesen and Helen Friesen (Reimer); his sister Margaret; and his siblings-in-law, John Dueck, Anne and Anna Friesen.

He is survived by: his wife Ida Gingerich; and his children, Lisa Troyer (Mike), Fred Friesen (Brenda), Gayle Buerge (Kevin), Melanie Miller (Rod), Maggie Flowers (Ryan) and Daryl Friesen (Ali). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one grandchild.
