He is survived by: his children, DeWitt Friend, III (Cheryl) of Ashley, Kim VanMeter (Jeff) of Huber Heights and Howard (Cindy); and his friend John. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great child.
