He was predeceased by: his parents, LeRoy and Vivian; and his daughter Brenda Lynn Shuey. He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann; his children, Richard J. Shuey (Annie), David Shuey (Roselyn), Laura Weatherholt (Eric) and Angela Felts; his siblings, Craig Shuey, Diana Paradise (Ken) and Denise Edward (Terry); his grandchildren, Amanda Prater, Brandon Shuey, Madison Shuey, Samuel Felts, Ted Felts, Aaron Espelage, Nicholas Weatherholt, Logan Frazier, Dylan Frazier and Libby Frazier-Nelson; and also, Jase and Ember.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Habitat for Humanity.
