He was predeceased by: his parents, Lonnie Delbert and Luvenia Cremeans Poynter; his daughter Amy Noel Poynter; his siblings, Ronald "Buddy" Poynter, Roland "Hody" Poynter, Dessie Nichols, Marilyn Edmonds and Gail Chapman; and his son-in-law Steve Blackburn.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Poynter; his daughters, Sonia Blackburn of Barboursville, WV, Judy Korstanje (David) of Huntington, WV, Billie Sue Roby of Proctorville, Renee Poynter of Proctorville and Jamie Nicole Poynter of Proctorville; his grandchildren, Brandy Andrus (Dennis), Krista McHenry (Jason), Billy Blackburn (Taylor), Alex VonVille, Jace VonVille (Nadia), Payton VonVille and Maddox VonVille; and his great grandchildren, Jackson Brynlee, Logan and Claire. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
