He was predeceased by : his father Marvin McFarland; and his sisters, Bonnie Hicks and Brenda McFarland. He is survived by : his wife Beverly McFarland; his sons, James McFarland Jr. (Amanda) and Danny McFarland (Roxxi); his sister Patty Cloud; and his grandchildren, James III, Joshua, Julia, Nathan, Alex, Isaac, Victoria, Tanner and Kaiden Flickinger.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
