He was predeceased by: his parents, John D. Shivers and Margaret Vietmeier Shivers; his siblings, Carolyn Shivers and Tommy Shivers; his nephews, Tommy Stone and John D. Shivers III; his siblings-in-law, Paula Shivers and Tom Patton; and his parents-in-law, Thomas J. and Mary Madeline Patton.
He is survived by: his wife Madeline Patton Shivers; his sons, Dr. Joseph P. Shivers (Sarah Meister) of Pittsburgh, PA and Brian D. Shivers of New York City; his grandsons, Owen and Henry Shivers of Pittsburgh; his siblings, Jane Stone of Salem, John D. Shivers Jr. of Salem, Jim Shivers of Salem, Marjorie Shivers of Salem, Paul K. Shivers (Laura) of Salem, William Shivers (Lori) of Salem, R. Mark Shivers (Jeanine) of Salem and Mary Beth Shivers of Salem; his aunt Lauretta Amos of Salem; and his in-laws, Patti Cooper (Chuck) of Bexley, OH, Joyce Patton of Bexley, OH and Denise Patton of Salem. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
