He was predeceased by: his parents, William Carpenter and Mabel Carpenter (Case); his former wife Elsie Price (Biles); his close friend Gene Lanhan; and his siblings, Barb, Juanita, Grace, Ellen, Neely, Perry, Shelby, Gene, Floyd and Hayward.

He is survived by: his children, Pam Little-John and Mark Carpenter; his daughter-in-law Kathy Carpenter; and his sister Linda. He is also survived by grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
