He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Ross and Ella Elizabeth Eakins (Hughes); his brother Robert Glen; and his sisters-in-law, Janet Eakins (Humphrey) and Terry Eakins.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Dotson; his children, James Ross Eakins, Jr. (Tammy) and Gale Ann Stair (Jerry); his grandchildren, Allen Eakins (Betty), Sarah Picklesimer (Lloyd), Mark Stair (J. J.), Joel Stair and Kara Stair; his great grandchildren, Romina Eakins, Axel Pickelsimer, Josiah, Malachi, Mira and Judah Stair; and his siblings, William Eakins and Phyllis Wisecup (David). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
