We announce the death of James William Sheridan of Shelby, Ohio, who passed away on October 11, 2026, at the age of 101. James William will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Sheridan and Cora Sheridan (Reedy); his siblings, Frederick Sheridan, Albert Sheridan, Ruth Alt, Bernadette Kuhn, Esther Kinstle, Mary Moorehead, Edward Sheridan and Gerald Sheridan; his son-in-law Carl Thornton; and his grandson Michael Switzer.
He is survived by: his daughters, Peg Thornton of Galion, Becky Wilkins (Lee) of Shelby and Lori Switzer (John) of Jacksonville, FL; and his grandchildren, Scott Thornton (Michelle), Amber VanHouten, Brittany Shumate (Aaron), Heath Wilkins (Jackie Barker), Chad Wilkins (Jaime Roush), Jennifer Covington (Alec) of Carl James, Stephanie Berman (Jordan) and Lori Sue Switzer (Vanessa Young). He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Penwell Funeral Home (168 W Main St, Shelby, OH 44875). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 11:30 AM at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church (29 West St, Shelby, OH 44875).
