He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Berning and Ruth Berning (Bruns); his son Mark Berning; his brothers, Sam, Vernon and Alvin Berning; and his granddaughter Stephanie Elliott.
He is survived by: his children, Paula Elliott (Pat) of St Marys, Beth Strunk (Greg) of Anna, Sandy Lykins (Bryan) of Hilliard and Richard Berning (Carol) of Anna; and his siblings, Lester Berning (Karen), Dennis Berning, Carol Klinefelter, Theresa Newland (Gordon) and Brenda Neikamp (Mike). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Alzheimer's Association and Ohio Living Dorothy Love.
