He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph McKenzie Sr. and Mary Adkins McKenzie; and his grandmother Rosalee. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Lou Salyers; his brother Vonnie McKenzie (Anne McKenzie) of Lady Lake, FL; and his children, Veronica Armstrong of Ironton, OH, Sonya Ingurgio of Phoenix, AZ and Joseph Powers of Aurora, CO.. He is also survived by many in-laws, cousins, and other loving family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
