He is survived by: his wife Mary Anne (Sinkuc); his children, Joseph Messina, John Messina, Theresa, Mike Ratliff, Jeremy and Jessica Messina; his grandchildren, Tamyelle Lamb, Desmond, Charles Ratliff, Rowan, Ezra and Carleigh Messina; and his siblings, Vincent (Renee Messina), Patricia Sinkuc, Kenneth (Cherie Messina), Dennis Messina, Michael (Patti Messina), David (Tammy Messina) and Jeanine (Guy Shearrer). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
