He was predeceased by: his parents, John Phipps and Johnnie Mae Christian; and his brother Gregory Phipps. He is survived by: his son Steven Phipps (Dawn) of Valdosta, Georgia; his grandsons, Caleb and Steven Phipps; and his siblings, Howard Christian of Pensacola, Florida and Barbara Ann Phipps Harvey of Columbus, Ohio.. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
